Myths and facts

I have come across some odd sayings in my day. But more than odd, they were controversial sayings, but delivered palatably, with even with a hint that it should be accepted. Except when I heard it, I may have had the advantage of my knowledge over others in the crowd.

The controversies were told at church, but if one knows their Bible quite literally, as I do, you would think twice about the saying. You would recognize it as controversial and that it did not quite fit the evidence of the Bible. Maybe they were aiming for mass and consumer acceptance, but I sat there dismayed. Waiting for someone to correct. So here it is. The fallacies that appeared from time to time on my journeys. How do I reply…

Hard

I really felt blah reading the Bible this morning. But I give it time and tonight get on top of it, if that is the right expression when one reads the Bible. The prophets are especially hard to read in the morning. But never give up is what I think.

Evasion can be a good thing

In the Bible, there is the story of David who became a king of ancient Israel. God chose him as king because his heart was in the right place (1 Samuel 16:7). One day, while David was still a tender of his father’s sheep, he was brought into the service of the king named Saul and eventually rose to the head of the army or fighting men. But Saul got jealous of David because he was more popular with the people. In a frenzy, Saul brandished a spear to pin David to the wall. “But David twice evaded him” (1 Samuel 18:11, Jerusalem Bible).

Agenda

Writing while doing other things in life as you would normally do can be hectic. Keeping up to date with the stuff a writer does–that is, the writing–sometimes near impossible. If one is going well and the good days outnumber the bad ones, then keeping up to date is a reality. Getting through the writing agenda is not impossible. These days, getting through my agenda, is simply writing the ideas up, devotional ideas that get turned into short meditations or devotions or what’s also knows as reflections. Short and sweet.
